I consider myself quite fortunate to live on this island paradise called Oahu, Hawaii. I actually arrived on island for a postdoctoral research laboratory position at Shriner’s Hospital to study juvenile arthritis. It was so cool to work there and interact with all of the South Pacific keiki (kids in Hawaiian) who were receiving free surgical care. I actually witnessed a couple of young boys who had one leg shorter than the other (due to polio). Within one year, they were effortlessly running around with the other children. How amazing is that?
I grew up in Massachusetts (yes, with the obligatory Boston accent) and attended college in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains. I was enthralled with the life of a college student (worked hard and played hard) and was lucky enough to go to the University of Buffalo to do doctoral research on autoimmune diseases (the interests stemmed from my mother’s health concerns). After five years of intensive study and research, I became a bonafide Post Hole Digger (aka Doctorate of Philosophy). My next stop was NYC to do postdoctoral cancer research at the Physicians and Surgeon’s Hospital of Columbia University in upper westside Manhattan. My half decade in that locale made excellent fodder for Book 1: Sacred Idol.
I am truly confident that the soon to be released COVID-19 vaccines will eradicate the pandemic-causing monster from the face of this earth, similar to what occured to the small pox virus decades ago (Wait… what is small pox?).
